Project Description

Imarmiik means “from the sea” in Greenlandic, and the menu takes it literally: fish’n’chips on halibut and a snow crab roll, cooked by the chefs of Hotel Icefiord and eaten with a view over Disko Bay. A food truck at the edge of the Ilulissat icefjord, 3,000 kilometres from its owners’ hometown of Ry, and worth every one of them.

The identity turns on a single move: a fish drawn from the letters of the name, so the word and the catch become one. The letters are rounded and slightly distorted, a nod to the tupilak figures carved in bone and stone, and the tail belongs to a halibut. The palette comes from traditional Greenlandic house colours, a deep blue base with white and orange, and the typography borrows from harbour signage rather than restaurant menus. Nothing more polished than the place would allow.

The wrap was built as solid-colour film with cut elements on top, the fish running around the corner of the truck. Everything shipped against a deadline no designer can negotiate with: the cargo boat to Greenland. Signage came together with Skiltestedet in a sprint set by the sailing schedule, and for two weeks the finished truck lay on a ship in the North Atlantic.

It landed in June. The chefs tested the menu, and the first photos arrived in July: customers in the sun, snack in hand, fish on the cup. A small website at imarmiik.gl and a QR code by the hatch did the rest. The sea provides, the truck serves, and the identity points the way.
